Smart, Eric

My background has been in banking. I began in retail banking and following my move from my native Scotland to London, I joined a merchant bank concentrating on stocks and shares. I became a Pension Fund Investment manager and then moved to the investment arm of a stockbroker where I remained until I took early retirement 15 years ago. I ran the client services department and later headed up the client audit function which involved probing client relationships and ensuring quality of service. My position was Executive Director. Since retiring I have been heavily involved in voluntary work: Chaired the board of Trustees at The Hackney Volunteer Centre; Trustee of a local mental health charity; trustee of a drama group charity; director of a children’s nursery; director and chair of the trading subsidiary of a national charity. I have resigned from two further charities with which I was involved.
